Press Release

Port Au Prince Airport open to VFR, daylight operations

Stratos Jets can now evacuate earthquake victims in and out Port Au Prince, Haiti on a private jet

By Christine Harper

For immediate release:  Stratos Jet Charters, Inc.  an Orlando, Florida based company has announced Wednesday morning that it can provide private air charter service in and out of disaster-stricken Port Au Prince, Haiti through the recently reopened airport.

The devastating 7.0 earthquake that hit Port Au Prince Tuesday afternoon, destroyed most of the city and left many people stranded who could not evacuate through the closed Port Au Prince Airport (MTPP).  This morning, Stratos Jets agents received notice that the Port Au Prince airport was reopened and is now open to all VFR, daylight operations.

With as little as four hours notice, Stratos Jets can arrange private flights in and out of Port Au Prince and carry as much as 2,000 pounds of total weight in the safety and comfort of a private charter aircraft.  Stratos Jets is currently arranging charter flights from Ft. Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) on12, 17 and 30 passenger jets to evacuate missionaries and victims, send medical supplies and equipment to the disaster site and to fly news crews to report on the situation.  Stratos Jets can also make travel arrangements for charter flights in and out of nearby Santo Domingo Dominican Republic (MDSD) airport, and provide ground transportation into the disaster-struck city.  The Santo Domingo airport is currently not under any daytime flight restrictions.

According to Joel Thomas, President of Stratos Jets, his agents are working non-stop to evacuate as many people as possible from Port Au Prince.  Thomas said that he has “air charter agents standing by to assist in the transportation efforts of earthquake disaster relief teams.”

“Our charter jet agents will do whatever it takes to make sure these people have access to all available aircraft” Thomas said. “Our air charter agents are experts and have been specifically trained to handle crises like this and will work hard to find the safest and best solutions.”
